The Val di Noto in Sicily
A MOSAIC OF BEAUTIES ALL TO BE DISCOVERED
Our Resort in the Val di Noto is located in a real corner of paradise, a truly special place in Sicily that will conquer and make you fall in love with the island. We Sicilians are certainly not the first to speak well of our land. In the history of the world we have always been protagonists, winners and losers, people, clan, emblem. We live in a very ancient and cultured land, full of symbols and historical memories. Walking in Sicily forces the mind to go through thousands of years of stories of peoples and battles.
It is a magic that happens every day, we have always known it. Our tracks and our time speak for us. The rock settlements of the Bronze Age speak, history speaks. Loved by Cicero in Roman times, conquered by the Arabs and “liberated” by the Normans. It was the Kingdom of Sicily, it was the County of Modica in 1296, the largest and most powerful, but that wasn’t enough.
Our South East is beautiful, it lives between contradictions because it is squeezed between Etna and the Mediterranean, fire and water, burned by the sirocco that brings the desert with it but throws it on a green land. Here the woodcocks pass from Russia to fly to Africa, meet the Flamingos who make the opposite journey and rest in the marshes to nest. The birds of prey are always on the alert and heavy wild boars feed on fragrant berries. This land smells of honey and thyme, smells of wisteria and capers, sea and salt.
Surrounded by wonderful territories that offer an open countryside still highly respected by man, closed only by the typical dry stone walls, the Cava d’Ispica, the water mills, also benefits from an enjoyable proximity to the sea, one of the most beautiful and evocative of the Sicilian coasts, from the tip of Portopalo with its tonnare, Marzamemi, Pisciotto, up to the Ragusano coasts with white and very fine beaches, just to name a few. We are in the Val di Noto, closed between two provinces, an authentic point of reference for those who want to enjoy our South East.
Wounded to death in 1693 by a horrendous earthquake that struck it without any pain, our people showed that they had heart and pride, giving life to our most recent history, the baroque one, still a miracle, a magic, a challenge of man who proudly shows us the beauty of our churches, cathedrals, noble palaces. The city of Modica with its aggregates is located in a geographical context full of great opportunities.
